Discipleship Challenge

Are You Up To It?

Part of the purpose of this website is to help students grow in their walk with Christ. One of the most important tools in our growth is our practice of spiritual disciplines. Spiritual disciplines are kind of like the training that a person does when they’re going to run a marathon. It’s not the marathon itself, but if one doesn’t do it, then he or she will not be able to complete the marathon when the time comes. In the same way, spiritual disciplines are the point of our faith. In other words, we’re not doing them for the sake of themselves, or to get Pious Points with God. However as we live life everyday (the marathon) the more we engage in spiritual disciplines the better spiritual shape we find ourselves in and the more we are able to live faithfully before God.

For this reason, we’re using the website to initiate the 2010 (& Beyond) Spiritual Discipline Challenge. To begin with, download the Spiritual Discipline Commitment and fill it out. Post it somewhere in your room or home where you will see it and it will remind you that you have committed to be a part of this. Secondly, check out the list of Standard Discipline Challenges and determine which three listed you will commit to doing in 2010.

Finally, throughout the year, there will be Special Challenges that will pop up in the blog and announced on Sunday nights. These challenges will extend your involvement in the challenge and stretch you beyond what you’re already doing.

The point of all of this is not to create some cool sounding challenge, or to win some contest to see who can do the most for God in 2010, but it is to challenge us all to push our devotion to God beyond what we normally would have on our own. It’s a way for the community of God to support one another in our growth.
